About
Where the towering Obsidian stands as the sovereign guardian of the Kabal monarchy, the Obsidian Predator represents the brutal, efficient will of the Union Army. Built in secret by the same engineers who helped design the original colossus, the Predator was conceived as a purely military asset. It is smaller, faster, and infinitely deadlier in tactical precision. Standing at 15 feet tall, it trades Obsidian’s regal grandeur for sheer lethality.
It is the first and only of its kind, a prototype turned perfected weapon. Unlike its monumental cousin, the Predator does not wait for royal invocation or ceremony. It answers to one command structure only: the Union Army’s High Command.
The Obsidian Predator’s frame is forged from Obsidite Alloy Mk-II, a refined derivative of the same obsidian-steel composite used on its larger counterpart. This newer alloy sacrifices near-invulnerability for lightweight resilience, enabling speed and agility on the battlefield. Its outer layer is heat-dissipating, capable of absorbing laser and plasma strikes before venting excess energy through the spines that run down its back like a mechanical fin.
The Obsidian Predator is engineered for versatility in active combat zones — a frontline hunter rather than a siege engine. Its weapon systems include:
Sentinel Cannon Rifle (Right Arm): The Predator’s signature weapon, this enormous arm-mounted cannon channels raw sentinel energy into explosive kinetic rounds. Each shot delivers catastrophic thermal and concussive force, capable of vaporising small vehicles or punching holes through mech armour. The rifle doubles as a melee bludgeon, with shockwave pulses emitted from its muzzle.
Integrated Eye Lasers: Twin optical emitters beneath the primary sensor. These lasers function as cutting tools and precision weapons, accurate enough to target vital points or disable weapons without collateral damage. When overcharged, both eyes can combine into a concentrated beam capable of shearing through energy shields.
Shock Spines: Along its upper back and shoulders are retractable energy fins that release bursts of electromagnetic discharge. These discharges act both as area-denial weapons and EMP suppressors, frying enemy electronics in close quarters.
Sentinel Core Reactor: A compact version of the Heart of Kabal, this power source grants the Predator immense sustained output, but also a volatile nature. Overheating can lead to instability, a deliberate risk accepted by the Union’s engineers to maximise combat efficiency.
Claw Grapples: Each hand houses retractable claws capable of embedding into enemy armour or terrain, useful for both climbing and close-quarter dismemberment.
Role and Battlefield Behaviour
The Obsidian Predator operates as an autonomous hunter-killer platform, directed by the Union’s Command AI network known as “The Spine.” Through encrypted signal chains, field commanders can assign the Predator to surgical strikes, assassinations, or retrieval missions too dangerous for human units.
It is not merely a machine. The Predator’s tactical AI, Vigilant 7, records every engagement, adapting to enemy movement patterns and optimising combat performance. Over time, this has given rise to rumours among soldiers that the Predator “remembers” kills and hunts with purpose — a cold echo of malice in metal form.
Combat History
1. The Siege of Kora’s Rift (Era 12)
The Predator’s debut. During the Union’s campaign to reclaim a rogue mining colony, the Predator was deployed solo into a canyon system occupied by rebels. Within three hours, communications from the insurgents ceased entirely. The Union recovered the territory intact, with minimal damage to infrastructure with only melted armour and charred silhouettes left behind.
2. The Shadowfront Conflict (Era 11)
When Baalmark infiltrators established outposts near Kabal’s northern border, the Union deployed the Predator for covert elimination. It moved unseen through forests and fog, its heat signature masked. Entire platoons vanished overnight. The Baalmark withdrew within a week, claiming they were attacked by a “metal demon with burning eyes.”
3. The Turning of Tilvara (Era 12)
During the siege of Tilvara, a rebellious country who refused to join the Union of Kabal and wished to remain sovereign. The leaders of the country launched several attacks in the middle of the night during a day of peace, and this evoked the wrath of the Union members. Kabal declared this as an act of treason; the King and Queen authorised Obsidian to guard the border between the Union and Tilvara as its smaller, more aggressive counterpart, the Obsidian Predator, launched a huge attack.
