Perched in the north-west of Anarkand, bordered by Natnimya to the east and Andromania to the south, with the Turrican Sea stretching wide and brilliant to its north, Kanesh is both a marvel of civilisation and the spiritual anchor of the planet.

It is here, in the gleaming capital city of Mags-Lottie, that the Temple of Anark, the oldest and most revered institution on Anarkand, resides. From its immense crystalline spires and golden sanctums, the Temple oversees the spiritual and administrative stewardship of the Red Hex network, the vast energy lattice that binds the planet’s skies and sustains its ecosystems.

Kanesh is a nation of science, diplomacy, and unity, known across the world for its neutrality, innovation, and cultural diversity. No other country on Anarkand boasts such a mixture of races, ideologies, and traditions living in comparative harmony.

According to ancient scriptures preserved in the Codex of Anark, Kanesh was once a cluster of warring provinces known collectively as the Kharvakian States. These states were frequently at odds over access to early Red Hex nodes and the arcane technology associated with them.

Peace was finally achieved during the Second Era, when a strange prophet known (remembered) only as Thorax (tor-ax) united the Kharvakian leaders under a shared doctrine, the belief that the Red Hex was not merely energy, but a divine conduit of balance and preservation.

Thorax and his followers established the Temple of Anark at the convergence of five major Hex streams, creating a focal point for worship, research, and planetary stewardship. Over the following centuries, the surrounding land became known as Kanesh, meaning “the place of convergence” in ancient Marakai script.

While much of Anarkand fell to the tides of war and conquest across the eras, Kanesh maintained a strict policy of neutrality. Under the edicts of the Anarkian Charter, no army is permitted to march upon or through Kaneshian soil without unanimous consent from the Temple of Anark.

This neutrality allowed Kanesh to evolve into a global sanctuary during periods of planetary unrest. Scientists, scholars, refugees, and political dissidents alike found safety within its borders. Over time, this led to the development of a truly multicultural society, Marakai engineers from Marrakis, scholars from Andromania, traders from Iccus, and even mystics from the islands of Thynar (which are now the Natnimyan Islands)

Although the Temple of Anark is the dominant institution, Kanesh functions as both a theocratic and technocratic state, blending faith and logic in governance. The nation is administered by the Tri-annan Council, consisting of three bodies:

The Elder Cabinet - the religious and moral arm of governance, headed by the High Custodian of the Temple.

The Scholar Assembly - composed of scientists, philosophers, and engineers who advise on matters of Red Hex technology and planetary welfare.

The Civic Assembly - representatives from the multicultural cities and provinces of Kanesh who voice the needs of the people.

This tripartite structure ensures balance between doctrine, science, and citizenry, which is the ultimate reflection of Kanesh’s founding ideals.

The Temple’s influence extends beyond its borders, regulating Red Hex calibration, environmental oversight, and the ethical use of planetary energy. When the Red Hex above any nation begins to falter, it is to Kanesh that the world turns for aid and intervention, for the Temple of Anark which holds its headquarters in the country.

Cities and Regions

Mags-Lottie: This is the capital of Kanesh and is one of the grandest cities on Anarkand. It is a place of gleaming stone, gold-veined architecture, and seemingly floating bridges. Its skyline is dominated by the Temple of Anark HQ as well as the towering buildings that surround it.

Kanika: The second largest city of Kanesh is situated to the east. it is the centre of trade and diplomacy, home to the Anarkian World Exchange, where resources, and technologies from across the globe are bartered under one roof.

Niro: The 3rd largest city of Kanesh and one that is a scientific powerhouse on the global stage. Niro is on the southern border near Andromania, is a sprawling academic city renowned for the Kaneshian Institute of Hexological Sciences, where advances in weather regulation, Red Hex repair, and energy transference are made.

Kaneshian society thrives on plurality. The intermingling of races and faiths has produced a civilisation rich in art, cuisine, architecture, and philosophy. The Festival of Light, celebrating the birth of the Temple of Anark each year, draws millions to the streets, as do the Harmony Ceremonies, where the many cultures of Kanesh display their art and traditions in a grand exhibition of peace.

Education is both a right and a duty; every citizen is required to learn about the Red Hex, its purpose, its fragility, and its strength.

Religion in Kanesh is not oppressive, but rather integrative, viewed more-so as a means to align one’s purpose with planetary balance.

Though neutral, Kanesh wields immense soft power. Its level of understanding and the HQ of the Temple of Anark gives it a quiet but undeniable leverage in global politics. In addition, many countries are dependant on Kanesh and the intellectual understanding of the world around them. For example:

Natnimya depends heavily on Kaneshian water purification technologies.

Andromania cooperates on research programmes.

Nova Lianaris, across the Turrican Sea, maintains a close technological and cultural exchange, particularly in the fields of medicine and artificial power systems.

The Radamis Empire and United Territories of Samokov maintain diplomatic but cautious relations with Kanesh, wary of the Temple’s ability to influence global narratives and energy supply chains.

Kanesh leads the world in Hexological research, pioneering the stabilisation of damaged atmospheric grids and the purification of Hex energy for civilian use. The Red Hex Restoration Initiative, launched during the Twelfth Era, continues to guide the repair of broken Hex systems above countries such as Burana-Kai and The Union of Kabal.

Scientists of Kanesh have also developed the Aural Prism Network, a series of atmospheric satellites that detect and predict Hex fluctuations, preventing global catastrophes. These technological marvels are overseen jointly by the Temple and the Institute of Hexology.

In the current era, Kanesh stands as a nation without conflict. Its people are deeply proud of their multicultural heritage and their role as caretakers of planetary harmony.

Yet, whispers of dissent persist. Some claim that the Temple’s neutrality is a façade, that behind its benevolent image lies a quiet manipulation of world affairs. Others believe that the Temple guards ancient secrets about the true origins of the Red Hex and the role of Emperor Radamik in its creation.
