United territories of Samokov

A b o u t

Beneath the polished marble of the United Territories of Samokov, beneath the parade squares and data towers and the neat, confident hum of progress, there is a room that does not appear on any map.

In that room breathes the last of the Pacheco.

THE ORIGINATORS

Long before Samokov was a federation of aligned territories, before its banners were stitched together in political necessity, the land belonged to a singular people known as the Pacheco. They were not conquerors, but great architects.

Archaeological strata beneath Old Samokov City reveal bio-engineered stonework and neural-responsive alloys dating back millennia, suggesting the Pacheco possessed biotechnology far beyond anything seen in the early territorial states that followed. They shaped the terrain with restraint, cultivated climates, and encoded knowledge into living substrates rather than paper or silicon.

Ancient glyph archives recovered during the Unification Excavations describe them as “Keepers of Balance”, a civilisation that valued equilibrium over expansion. Their governance appears to have been collective, possibly hive-coordinated through bio-telepathic resonance structures embedded in their physiology.

And then they began to disappear, roughly eight centuries before the formal Unification of Samokov. Old Pacheco settlements show evidence of catastrophic collapse. Not warfare in the conventional sense, but internal destabilisation. Three dominant theories exist within classified Samokov research archives:

1. Their collective neural network fractured. Individualisation emerged, and with it, conflict.

2. Evidence of anomalous isotopic residue suggests exposure to unknown off-world technology.

3. They engineered themselves beyond biological sustainability.

Whatever the cause, the Pacheco population plummeted. Territorial proto-states rose in the vacuum and Pacheco ruins were stripped for materials. Their biotech was reverse-engineered into early power cores. Their organic data matrices became the foundation for Samokov’s later sentinel architecture. The race that once guided the continent became a resource.

THE LAST SURVIVOR

By the time the United Territories of Samokov formally unified, the Pacheco were considered extinct.

They were wrong.

During a deep subterranean excavation beneath what would become the Federal Core Complex, an automated defence grid activated. Sentinel constructs, dormant for centuries, engaged in lethal protection protocols. When the dust settled, Samokov’s highest scientific authority discovered not a weapon cache… but a chamber.

Inside was a single Pacheco.

Mortally wounded. Lower body destroyed, possibly centuries earlier. Kept alive by self-sustaining bio-mechanical systems fused directly into its nervous system. Sentinel technology had been maintaining it all along.

It was not preserved. It was waiting.

THE VEILED DIRECTIVE

The being could speak, although communication was strained. Its vocal structures were degraded. Each sentence required visible effort, like dragging thought through broken glass.

From heavily restricted transcripts:

“You built upon us… but you do not understand the structure beneath your feet.”

The revelation reshaped Samokov’s inner doctrine.

The highest-level personnel, those holding K7 Clearance, formed the Veiled Directive. Publicly, Samokov continued as a federation born of political necessity. Privately, it became something else: a civilisation under observation by its own progenitor.

The Pacheco is sustained in a classified facility beneath the Federal Core. Its lower half is gone entirely. What remains is the torso, integrated into a life-support lattice of adaptive bio-metal and sentinel nodes. Machines breathe for it and stabilise its neural lattice whilst others amplify its faint bio-resonance.

No citizen knows. No foreign power suspects. Not even allied nations within Anarkand are aware.

WHAT IT KNOWS

The surviving Pacheco possesses knowledge that predates the successor states. It understands the original planetary systems of Samokov, including dormant sentinel grids that remain buried across the territories.

It has warned of cycles.

Of imbalance.

Of repeating mistakes.

Its greatest statement, according to sealed archives:

“You are close to the Veil.”

Samokov’s rapid technological expansion in sentinel systems, orbital defence arrays, and autonomous governance frameworks is not merely ambition. It is preparation; preparation for something the Pacheco remembers.

THE ABOMINATION

Within the Veiled Directive, the being is not referred to as a relic. It is instead classified as a prime asset of the United Territories of Samokov, but privately, some officials whisper another term.

“Abomination.”

Not because it is monstrous, but because it should not still exist. Its survival blurs the boundary between extinction and imprisonment; between preservation and exploitation. It is the last echo of an entire race, reduced to an upper torso suspended in engineered twilight, and still, it speaks.

THE STORY OF KRONICHA

In the dark dungeons of the Radamis Empire, High Priestess Kronicha of Samokov endured unimaginable pain. Her captors, masters of cruelty, sought to break her spirit and extract secrets about the United Territories of Samokov. Yet, day after day, she resisted, her fortitude becoming a legend among the torturers themselves. Her resilience piqued the curiosity of Emperor Radamik, who decided to meet this extraordinary prisoner.

The Emperor's Curiosity
Emperor Radamik entered the dimly lit cell, expecting to see a broken woman. Instead, he found Kronicha, defiant and composed. Her eyes held a depth that spoke of lifetimes. Intrigued, the emperor began to converse with her, seeking to understand the source of her unyielding strength.

Through their conversations, Kronicha revealed her astonishing secret. She was not merely a high priestess of Samokov, but the old country's ancient queen, deposed and thought long dead. Her tale began over 10,000 years ago, in the 11th era, when she ruled a prosperous kingdom with her family. Betrayed by those closest to her, she watched as her husband and children were slaughtered before her eyes. Exiled to the fiery depths of the Nexus, she endured 6,000 years of torment, her body and spirit twisted by the embers' relentless assault.

Escape from the Nexus
Kronicha's escape from the Nexus was a miraculous fluke. Emerging into a world unrecognizable to her, she embarked on the Kessler Pilgrimage, a perilous journey across Anarkand. Her trek culminated at the summit of the Baraniendemor mountains, where she sought answers from Qorona, the ancient oracle.

The Answer of Qorona
Qorona revealed the secret to restoring her body: consuming the essence stored in the blood of others. The tainted essence of the Nexus coursed through her veins, giving her the ability to regenerate by draining the life force of others. Unaware of the rules governing Qorona, Kronicha became ensnared in the realm between the Drah'min of creation, where she was trapped for another 4,000 years, waiting for a successor to complete the pilgrimage and set her free.

The Return and the Long Con
Finally freed, Kronicha emerged with a thirst for vengeance and a clear plan. Consuming the essence of those who opposed her or stood in her way as she proceeded to regain her strength and vitality. She made her way back to the United Territories of Samokov, marrying Borellean, the king's son, through cunning manipulation over a number of years. Her true ambition was to destroy the country from within and reclaim her position as the supreme ruler.

Orchestrating Her Capture
Knowing she needed more power and influence, Kronicha orchestrated her own capture by the Radamis Empire. Her suffering and resilience during torture were part of her long con, designed to gain the emperor’s interest. Over time, she and Emperor Radamik forged a secret pact. If he helped her ascend to the throne of Samokov, she would ensure the allegiance of Samokov and its allies to the Radamis Empire, promising to dismantle the 12e Alliance, the greatest threat to the empire.

The Pact with the Emperor
Kronicha's plan was audacious. She swore loyalty to the emperor and promised to deliver Samokov's vast army into his hands. The emperor, impressed by her resolve and strategic mind, agreed. With his support, she returned to Samokov, her path to power now clear.
