Iccus

A b o u t

Situated along the glittering corridor of water that separates it from Baalmark to the north, the country of Iccus is one of the wealthiest and most visually striking nations on all of Anarkand. It is a realm of radiant skylines, crystalline oceans, and monumental architecture.

Iccus is an empire not of kings and warriors, but of economists, magnates, and visionaries. The capital, Kasio, is the seat of government and global diplomacy, while the sprawling megacity of Mokab serves as the financial heart of the entire planet, the axis upon which Anarkand’s economic systems turn.

The people of Iccus have forged their identity not through conquest or divine right, but through influence, innovation, and commerce. Theirs is a nation where the boardroom is the battlefield and the market is the theatre of war.

Iccus’s modern golden age began during the Seventh Era, when the Red Hex grids across Anarkand stabilised after centuries of imbalance. Harnessing this immense energy source, Iccus was among the first to transform the Hex flow into clean, perpetual power for industry and infrastructure.

The Iccans built their wealth on connectivity, constructing transcontinental trade corridors, Red Hex-powered sky ports, and oceanic relay stations. Their strategic position along Baalmark’s southern corridor gave them natural access to both the western and eastern hemispheres of Anarkand, turning Iccus into a global crossroads.

By the Eighth Era, Iccus had transitioned from a modest mercantile nation into a financial empire. The creation of the Kasio Exchange, a planetary trading hub, made Iccus the de facto capital of Anarkand’s global economy. Its influence stretched far beyond its borders, shaping currency values, trade tariffs, and even political agendas across continents.

Unlike other nations, Iccus’s governance is not dominated by a monarchy or singular party. Instead, it operates under a Corporate Assembly, composed of the Seven Conglomerates of Kasio, seven vast entities that control nearly every aspect of Iccan life and global trade.

Each conglomerate holds dominion over a specific domain:

Veloran Industries – Energy and Red Hex stabilisation

KasioNet – Communications and planetary media

Mokab Financial – Banking, investment, and intercontinental loans

Marathe BioSolutions – Pharmaceuticals and biological enhancement

Odysseus Heavyworks – Robotics, transport, and defence technology

Kynmar Holdings – Agriculture, aqua-industries, and resource extraction

Spira Dynamics – Entertainment, art, and public perception

These seven corporations effectively are Iccus. The Prime Executive (their equivalent of a head of state) is chosen every six Anarkian years from among the seven, though the true decisions are made collectively in the Vault Council, a subterranean chamber beneath Kasio that only the Executives may enter.

The influence of Iccus extends far beyond trade: they control narratives. Through their vast media networks, they can shape opinion across nations, elevate leaders, or destroy reputations. To oppose Iccus publicly is to risk economic isolation, or worse, the silent erasure of your country’s access to global finance.

Despite its gleaming façades and polished diplomacy, Iccus has earned the moniker The Golden Veil — a reference to the illusion of perfection that conceals a far more ruthless undercurrent. For beneath the skyscrapers of Mokab and the marble plazas of Kasio, the UnderConglomerates thrive (black-market corporations and rogue financiers who manipulate markets in the shadows.) These groups often operate under the unofficial tolerance of the Assembly, provided they do not disrupt national interests.

Social inequality, though discreetly hidden, runs deep. The elite live in sky-cities, elevated platforms suspended high above the smog layer, while the lower classes inhabit the labyrinthine undercity — a neon sprawl of commerce, crime, and quiet rebellion.

Relations and Diplomacy

Iccus maintains neutral but influential relations with nearly every nation on Anarkand.

With Baalmark, they share a cooperative maritime border and jointly control the Baalmark–Iccus Corridor, one of the most profitable trade routes on the planet.

With Andromania and Marrakis, they share an intricate network of trade and mutual respect, though all parties are wary of the other’s economic reach.

The Temple of Anark often views Iccus with suspicion, accusing them of exploiting spiritual and political tensions for gain - an accusation that has never been publicly proven.

The Radamis Empire has a long-standing rivalry with Iccus, both vying for dominance in cultural influence and planetary infrastructure.

Despite its power, Iccus rarely engages in open conflict. Their wars are fought with credit, information, and persuasion, not armies.

Culture and Philosophy

The Iccan people are remarkably patriotic, though their patriotism manifests through ambition and personal success rather than devotion to rulers or gods. They believe in the Iccan ideal:

“To rise is to serve the whole.”

Their architecture mirrors this ethos, elegant yet functional, designed to symbolise aspiration. Glass spires, gold inlays, and shimmering crystal domes dominate their skylines, reflecting light across the coasts. Art in Iccus celebrates achievement, innovation, and control, and has elements of old belief systems, though rarely the divine or the mystical. In many ways, they see themselves as the modern gods of Anarkand: creators, innovators, and architects of destiny.
