Tucked between the turbulent trade routes of the central-western territories of Anarkand, Jaccaria is a nation reborn from ruin. It is a place where crumbling cities stand beside gleaming towers of glass and steel, and where the people’s will to rebuild has forged one of the most rapidly evolving societies on the planet.
The capital city, Cassidy, is a hive of restoration and reform, its skyline pierced by half-finished skyscrapers and shimmering construction domes. Further north lies Ratho, a vibrant metropolis known for its arts, heavy industry, and a population that rarely sleeps.
While much of Jaccaria’s southern and rural regions remain derelict, consumed by rust, desertification, and the relics of a bygone war, the nation’s beating heart now pulses with innovation, migration, and unity born from necessity.
Centuries ago, Jaccaria was a land under the governance of a loose federation of merchant families and minor noble houses. Its prosperity came from trade between the Marakai of Marrakis and the southern Khanic tribes, who shared technology and art through open markets and sea routes to the east.
This golden era ended abruptly during the War of the Shattered Pact, when Jaccaria’s ruling families aligned with the wrong side of an escalating conflict between Marrakis and the Union of Kabal. When both sides turned their weapons against the Jaccarian territories, the land was devastated. The Red Hex grids collapsed temporarily, cities fell into disrepair, and entire generations were lost to famine and migration.
The rebirth of Jaccaria began when the Marakai diaspora began settling across the northern plains. These Marakai, gifted builders and engineers, brought with them the skills to restore energy conduits and irrigation systems long thought beyond repair.
At the same time, exiled Kahns from Baraniendemor and beyond, migrated southward seeking refuge. Though their arrival initially caused tension, they proved invaluable labourers and warriors in a land desperate for reconstruction.
Over time, these groups, the Marakai, the Kahns, and the remaining native Jaccarians, fused into a diverse national identity that prized cooperation, resilience, and self-determination over the strict hierarchies that had destroyed their forebears.
Cassidy was rebuilt from the ruins of an ancient city-state and declared the new capital of Jaccaria. The city’s motto, etched upon the steps of its parliament, reads:
“We are not the ruins. We are what rises from them.”
Jaccaria is governed by the Jaccarian People's Council, a diverse assembly of industrialists, engineers, scholars, and community leaders. The council operates from Cassidy’s Glass Chamber, a partially transparent dome that symbolises openness.
The Prime Chancellor acts as both head of state and diplomatic envoy, but true power rests in the council’s consensus. Each councillor represents a region or sector of expertise: infrastructure, defence, science, agriculture, trade, culture, and foreign affairs among them. Corruption is never an issue, although there are major disagreements from time to time.
The Prime Chancellor is voted in from a selection of councillors by the Jaccarian people. Each councillor represents one of the houses of expertise above. This is why there are peaks and troughs when it comes to the development and direction that Jaccaria leans into.
For the last 45 sol years, the Prime Chancellor has been a councillor voted in from an infrastructure background. This has helped Jaccaria restore both Cassidy and Ratho to the powerful cities they once were. The current Chancellor is keen to begin new development projects in Stronach, Qompak, and Hanley, however there has been a fair amount of disagreement due to the financial implications, and as it stands there is a new frontrunner for the Prime position, one who has promised to restore foreign trade policies to the region.
Jaccaria’s population is culturally mixed. The Marakai form the intellectual and architectural backbone of the nation. Their influence seen in the sweeping stone-and-bronze structures that dominate Cassidy and Ratho. The Kahns provide the spiritual and martial traditions, with their nomadic histories inspiring new philosophies of endurance and adaptation, and the native Jaccarians, descended from the ancient merchant families, maintain the nation’s artistic and linguistic traditions.
Jaccarian society celebrates reinvention. Art is often built from scrap metal, old machinery, or broken temple glass. Music blends ancient chants with industrial rhythm. Their fashion favours function, with— dust-coloured layers and occasional glints of bright metal or glass beads symbolising rebirth through ruin.
Education and public works are sacred duties. Every citizen, regardless of class or heritage, is required to serve one cycle in The Renewal Corps, a civil organisation dedicated to rebuilding decayed regions and maintaining the infrastructure.
Cassidy City:
Cassidy, the capital, is a city of perpetual construction. Its skyline is a patchwork of cranes and lights, its streets filled with engineers, merchants, and artisans. The Cassidy Institute of Reclamation is world-renowned for its innovative use of Red Hex recycling, allowing once-dead lands to be re-energised for farming and habitation.
Ratho City:
Ratho, by contrast, is the soul of the nation, loud, artistic, and fiercely independent. It began as a settlement for displaced workers and refugees, but evolved into Jaccaria’s cultural and manufacturing powerhouse. Its entertainment districts rival those of Mokab in Iccus, though with a distinctly rougher charm.
Qompak City:
The next big city project for the Jaccarians.
